Art Highlights and Tea Series Remington fakes and forgeries

OGDENSBURG, NY - The second in the popular Art Highlights and Tea Series at the Frederic Remington Art Museum will begin at 12:15 PM on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.

The program, which is free to the public, will be presented by Laura Foster. Foster will introduce weird world of Remington fakes and forgeries.  The talk will focus on flat works; paintings and drawings.  This light survey of illegitimate Remingtons will explore a wide spectrum of non-Remington “Remingtons” from the convincing to the bizarre.  Not surprisingly, over the museum’s decades of collecting, some of the gifts received haven’t been actual works by Frederic Remington.  Some of these faux items will be pulled from storage for the talk. ...

A New Remington

We recently received a Frederic Remington pen and ink drawing, In a Sharp Scurry of Rain, 1888 from the estate of Dorothea Jean Hassler.

Remington created the drawing to illustrate an article in Outing Magazine, April 1888, p. 68. Prior to this, the location of the original drawing was unknown to Remington scholarship. We'll add the drawing to Frederic Remington: Master of Diverse Media in the Addie P. Newell Gallery.

The donor was unknown to us, and this gift comes as a wonderful surprise.
